Zap for Regional Transit

Zap Twin Cities

The downtown commuter service agencies for Minneapolis and Saint Paul had difficulties establishing a long-term, effective bicycle commuting program. They used online manual ride logging systems in the past but after the first month or so found that commuters stop logging rides. Then Dero Zap came along.

We can offer employers an incentive package, we can manage their prizes for them, and we can give them real data on actual bike trips their employees are taking.

A Sustainable Regional System

Zap Twin Cities is a program run by the Minneapolis and St. Paul Transportation Management Organizations. They are agencies that promote sustainable transit and transportation systems that support vital and growing downtowns. They work directly with employers to help offer commuters alternatives to driving alone to work.

They created a first of its kind program that installed 20 Zap readers on major bicycle routes in a ring around downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. This enables nearly any bicycle trip in or out of the central business districts to be counted. Now that the hardware is setup, any commuter that works within the downtown area can participate in the program just by putting a tag on their bike.

Zap Twin Cities provides free Zap tags to any individual or employer who wants to participate in their program. Employers participating in the Zap program receive a free customized online dashboard that provides on-demand reporting, email messaging and rewards capabilities, enabling them to provide their own level of benefits or wellness credits to bike commuters.
