Zap on Campus

University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota wanted to encourage bike commuting to campus. Because they were offering monetary rewards, they needed a system that would minimize under-reporting (cyclists forgetting to manually log their trips) and over-reporting (cyclists cheating the system). They turned to Dero Zap and the results have been impressive.

We estimated 350 - 500 people would sign up for the program. By the end of the first year we had over 1,700.

Exceeding Expectations

The University of Minnesota is the 4th largest university in the nation and the region’s largest employer. They have a robust wellness program that rewards employees who live healthier lives with rebates on their health insurance. Employees who bike at least 50 times per year get $65 credit off their health insurance. Employees and students that ride at least 10 times per month are also eligible for 200 monthly prizes (usually gift cards) to local merchants. The participation rate is nearly three times more than they expected. Of the people that have been tagged, over 80% of them bike on any given non-winter month.
